CSS layout x-cart templates

After a fair amount of research into various shopping cart solutions I’ve decided to give x-cart a try. Its a PHP/MySQL based cart that uses Smarty templates to separate the internal gubbins from the presentation. The only problem is that most of the templates that are supplied are based heavily on tables and there are a lot of them to customize.

Clean URLs with Textpattern

After a week of tearing out my hair trying to get textpattern to display clean urls with Apache, I’ve finally cracked it!
It was hard to find an article written for server configuration noobs (like myself) so I’ll document how I managed to pull off my URL miracle right here in my lovely new blog.

Hardly earth-shattering news but Opera is now a free download – no ads no serial number. You can still give them some of your hard-earned cash though – for “premium support” – whatever that means

Textpattern

At last the world of the blog has opened to me. I’ve finally had time to sit down and get my head around Textpattern and test it out on my own site.
I found it initially a bit daunting at first and thought it had a much steeper learning-curve than it actually has but after reading tutorials and articles by various members of the (very helpful) textpattern community I am fully converted to this magnificent tool.
Now I just need to work out the blogging thing.
