CSS layout x-cart templates

After a fair amount of research into various shopping cart solutions, I’ve decided to give x-cart a try. Its a PHP/MySQL based cart that uses Smarty templates to separate the internal gubbins from the presentation. The only problem is that most of the templates that are supplied are based heavily on tables and there are a lot of them to customize.

There are a couple of commercial templates available that are supposedly pure CSS based but these are priced at around half the cost of the whole cart and they seem to have a fair amount of inline styling that would need removing.

So, over the christmas hols i’m going to try to make the whole cart table-less and standards compliant (no, I don’t have much of a life). In the mean time if anyone has any tips or indeed knows of a reasonably priced CSS template for x-cart please let me know.

One thing everyone seems to forget when it comes to pricing with X-cart and 3rd party U.S. based mod sites. X-Cart is Russian based, therefor a USD goes a helluva alot further than here.

I too would be interested in a reasonably priced xcart template, especially if it works with 4.1 – the templates out there just now are pricey and not that great – also, a few addons included would be a bonus, xcart would be so great if the creators had actually put as much thought into the look and display of the cart as they had put into the admin and coding!

Hi all, sorry for not replying for ages – been snowed under and only checked my blog when I was on my hols.

Thanks for the kind comments. I’ve been getting to know x-cart for a couple of months now, and must say that creating templates is really laborious. I’m starting to think that the price of the templates is quite justified – especially considering you have to re-jig them for different versions.

@Melvin – the template I’ve done is tailored to the project I’m working on so there are lots of areas I’ve left out. I certaintly couldn’t release it commercially.

@Mark – I know what you mean. Its a great bit of software but looks like a dog out of the tin. Its also a bitch to customise – some of the templates on the storefront seem to be shared by the admin section. Nightmare!
